hermitNotes: This is a short article where the bishops of the United States offer a rebuttal to a proclaimed Catholic politicians endorsement of a same sex wedding that is in direct opposition to his Churches teachings. I found this particularly interesting because the vice presidents participation as a “counter-witness” was not an official duty of his elected office. It was his personal choice done in a very public manner. It offers example of many interesting interactions of “Church versus State”, and the role of Catholic politicians who often are obligated to go against their religion as a function of the duties of their office. This contrast is a Catholic politician going against their professed Catholic religion out of personal conviction not associated with the duties of their office.
