While having a pint on the Saints day: So many of the religious have moaned about the secular celebrations of Saint Patrick’s day. Today that celebrating is at a minimum, the green is not seen, nor the shamrock that marks today. Here in the tavern it is not a feast, just another day. Yet another celebration of Catholicism has begun to slip away, to disappear, to fade, and this used to be such a notoriously riotous occasion. To me that gives greater reason to celebrate today, even crude and pedestrian as it might be. Feasts are to be celebrated and it is a sin to let them pass away. It is right and proper to hoist a pint* on Saint Patrick’s day.Sláinte !
