The slaughter of the innocents, might it be we fear their deciphering our lies and deceit? The Feast of the Holy Innocents commemorates the slaughter of the children by Herod, slaughtered out of fear of the Christ. Mt 2:13-18 Such is the world the Child King is born into. The contrast of King’s, Christ versus Satin. What Herod did though was nothing new in that culture, though how different is this culture of ours. Child soldiers, child slavery, trafficking of children, Infanticide and genocide, and slaughter through abortion. The feast of the Holy Innocents gives something to question. They are among the first martyrs of the Christ Child.
A voice was heard in Ramah,
sobbing and loud lamentation;
Rachel weeping for her children,
and she would not be consoled,
since they were no more.
Martyr’s, Child Martyrs so close to the Christmas Nativity, then and now. The Popes commonly wear red shoes, so often commented on by the press, and often confused for designer shoes by them. The red though is not fashion, it is the red of the blood of the martyrs those shoes have walked through. Think of the red and white of Christmas, and the green. The green, evergreen of everlasting life. The white of purity, of innocence. And that red.Blood red. Blood of martyrs such as these. Read a newspaper, innocence slaughtered is a common occurrence not far from Bethlehem. Pray for them..
