Catholic Culture today had an excellent article on Angels that is far better than anything I could write.Click here for article. My thoughts though on this feast of the three archangels seemed to be centered on their depiction in art, and especially much of the older church architecture. The thought was on just how important that visual reminder of angels is. Those sculptures, reliefs, mosaics, windows, and paintings of angels bring a being that has no true body into view. Their representation serves as a reminder that the very real angels are constantly around us. In that reminder also is the truth that the best way to recognize an angels message is to be conscious of their presence, and to pray for their intercessions. To look at a representation of an Angel, is a quick reminder to seek out the very real Angel that is represented in the artwork. In older times much effort was placed on studying and praying to these spiritual beings, and that is likely the reason they were such a common theme in much artwork. It might not be such a bad idea to return to that practice, to go back to seeking Angels.
