“Son of David, have pity on us!”

Gospel Mt 9:27-31

An interesting thing about the blind men that Jesus cures is that when they have no sight of this earthly world, they have a clear vision of who Christ is. They view him as someone with the power to restore their sight. Jesus asks if they have faith in him and they respond “Yes, Lord”, and that is sight unseen. Jesus is their Lord, and therefore they his obedient servants. Once that Lord gives them sight of this world, he gives them a command “Seethat no one knows about this”, and their first action with earthly vision is to turn a blind eye to that command. On one hand their disobedience exalts Christ’s greatness, yet on the other they deny their Lord. Interesting?
