“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”
This is so different than the practice of many religion in following the path back to God. The statement of Jesus as the way to help you on a journey, rather than an obstacle keeping you from God. He asks for the labored and burdened, not the privileged or elite. He offers rest rather than another law to obey or ritual to fulfill and acts as a guide rather than a gatekeeper. His simple statement is a sharp contrast from the deceptions of many that promise a pathway to God. Gone are the fireworks of promotion, or the glitter of a mega church, or the screams of a preacher: both then and now. Here Jesus presents a simple guide, quietly guiding his followers safely down a path. Noise and theatrics are replaced with someone meek and humble of heart. Something to think about, especially today.
