Barukh : the Beatitudes

Standard
Barukh  is the first word of a Jewish blessing or benediction, and Jewish life contains a multitude of  Barukh prayers. Pauls letter to the Corinthians contains a Barukh: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all encouragement, who encourages us in our every affliction..” The prayer blessed be are directed to G-d and give thanks for all he has done for his people and these prayers are on the lips and in the hearts of every devout Jew.”Blessed are you, Lord, our God!” In thinking of this tradition when reading Jesus’s beatitudes or blessings, I cant help but be reminded that Jesus is telling these people on the mountain, and us, that God has heard all of these prayers and returns those blessings to us. If we pray “Blessed be God”, God replies “Blessed are you !”
