In that despair that was the first Holy Saturday, I wonder if those friends and followers thought about what drove them to follow that unorthodox teacher from Galilee? In their travels and time spent with him, what was it that quenched their thirst? Now that he lie in a tomb, did they tremble about what was about to happen to them? Did they also wonder why God had forsaken them? What were they promised, and what did they have to return to? Did they see an end to that promised kingdom, and had that promise come to an end? Remember though that their fear did not start when Jesus laid in the tomb. Theirs started at his trial, and it was not their God that abandoned them. They abandoned their God. They were not at the foot of that cross when Jesus gave his spirit back to the Father.
