Saint John Bosco

Standard

Gospel Mk 4:21-25

“Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket
or under a bed,
and not to be placed on a lampstand?”

Jesus talks about making Gospel visible by not concealing it. Its light should shine for all to see, yet how should that light shine? Should it be by talk, or by action. While actions speak louder than words, some people can use both to an advantage. One such person was Saint John Bosco, the priest who founded the Salesian Society. His was both the ability to evangelize through sermons and also to evangelize through his work with underprivileged youth. His gifts were as a educator at the pulpit and in the classroom. His society is still active for the betterment of those youths and many times these Salesians are the only source of education in the economically challenged countries where these missionaries practice. His practice of salvation is truly body and soul, word and deed.
