O King of all the nations, the only joy of every human heart;
O Keystone of the mighty arch of man:Come and save the creature you fashioned from the dust.
How many countries are their in the World? It is a complicated question, but one best guess would be 196.That is about the number represented in the United Nations. One hundred ninety six nations translates into 196 “Kings.” Sure, they are not all kings but they are all leaders despite the variances of government. While 196 “Kings” might be our folly, O Rex Gentium reminds us that their is only one true King and only one true Kingdom. The Kingdom is the Kingdom of God and it is Jesus that assumes his rightful throne over that kingdom. It is that Kingdom where the lion lies down with the lamb, a kingdom of peace.While the King and the kingdom might be true, mans adherence to it is less than perfect. Even 196 peaceful kingdoms with 196 kings respectful of each other would be an admirable objective, though one that is far from our reality.O Rex Gentium does remind us both of Gods eternal truth and the persistent sins of our human nature.O Rex Gentium is a Savior desperately needed by this troubled world and worth feverishly praying for:
O Come, Desire of the nations, bind
in one the hearts of all mankind;
bid every strife and quarrel cease
and fill the world with heaven’s peace.
