Feast of Saint Andrew

“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
At once they left their nets and followed him.

Isn’t it curious how all Jesus has to say to Andrew is “Come after me” and yet Andrew spent his life preaching to people to do the same and was martyred because he thought it so important that people follow Jesus. Though Andrew was not one of the Four Evangelists, he was likely one  of the first evangelists. It was he who told his brother Peter “we have found the Messiah.” What was so simple for Andrew to see, he devoted himself to bring to others. The Saint Andrew Novena begins on Saint Andrews Day and is recited 15 times a day until Christmas.

“Hail and blessed be the hour and moment In which the Son of God was born Of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires, [here mention your request] through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His blessed Mother. Amen. “
