One definition of Paraclete is “one who intercedes on our behalf as an advocate in court.” and a common “job title” associated with this description is a legal Defense Counselor. It is an interesting way of looking at the Holy Spirit that is as our defender and counsel in Gods court. It is Christ who promises to send this defender to us when he ascends to the throne of his kingdom, the kingdom of a triune God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, the Advocate, defends for us, counsels us, and guides us to the kingdom of God; and away from the false kingdoms of Emperors, Pontius Pilates, the Herods, the Sanhedrin’s and magistrates. This Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Truth defends Gods law on our behalf; and that is our comfort and consolation. This Holy Spirit unshackles us, sets us free.
